Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court has already had a big impact on minorities, including the long-oppressed fly-eating amphibian community.

(Follow the link. It’s funny, even though I think my side of the blogosphere is making too big a deal out of that particular remark and should be concentrating on the substance of her jurisprudence.)

Sometimes, no other word will do. The smiles on the people dropping the F-bomb in the linked video almost make the word sound friendly . . . like it doesn’t really belong on George Carlin’s list of the “seven words you can’t say on television.” Indeed, it reminded me of when Carlin made the case for taking “tits” off the list:

Tits doesn’t even belong on the list, you know. It’s such a friendly sounding word. It sounds like a nickname. ‘Hey, Tits, come here. Tits, meet Toots, Toots, Tits, Tits, Toots.’ It sounds like a snack doesn’t it? Yes, I know, it is, right. But I don’t mean the sexist snack, I mean, New Nabisco Tits. The new Cheese Tits, and Corn Tits and Pizza Tits, Sesame Tits Onion Tits, Tater Tits, Yeah. Betcha can’t eat just one. That’s true I usually switch off . But I mean that word does not belong on the list.

Anyway, I haven’t seem the F-bomb used to such good effect since Planes, Trains, and Automobiles . . . though there were no smiles to be had there. (Except on the people watching the movie.)

You remember Larry Craig, don’t you?

Idaho Sen. Larry Craig has lost his latest attempt to withdraw his guilty plea in the Minneapolis airport men’s room sex sting that effectively ended his Senate career.

A three-judge panel of the Minnesota Court of Appeals on Tuesday rejected the Republican’s bid to toss out his disorderly conduct conviction.

Craig still has the option of appealing to the Minnesota Supreme Court, and he said Tuesday he was considering future options.

Craig was arrested June 11, 2007, by an undercover police officer who was conducting a sting operation against men cruising for gay sex at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

He quietly pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor and paid a fine, but changed his mind after word of his arrest became public that August. Craig insisted he was innocent and said he was not gay. His attorney argued that the police officer misconstrued Craig’s foot-tapping, hand movements and other conduct.

Craig would later assert that his “wide stance” in the bathroom stall was responsible for the officer’s mistaken impressions.

So, the best comment I’ve seen on Craig’s latest court setback comes from Ace:

If you needed all this set-up from me, it probably wan’t all that funny. But if you knew the story in the beginning, it’s hilarious. Trust me.
