Some boat school classmates sent me this good news related to this weekend’s Ohio State – Naval Academy football match-up: Ohio State’s athletic department is circulating an online video encouraging Buckeyes’ fans to welcome the Midshipmen on Sept. 5 like no other OSU opponent has every been welcomed. My 7-year-old daughter started second grade at a new school a couple weeks ago. My wife and I both went with her to drop her off the first day, and I wanted to get a feel for the place, since I’m generally distrustful of public schools. It was not a promising start. Here’s what greeted [...] Image by Chewy Chua via Flickr Little did I know that I have been contributing to the downfall of civilization. Damn right you are, Deuce, some of you are saying. But I can almost guarantee you’re saying it for the wrong reason. For anyone else sick of the coverage of the freak, there’s a nice slide show of Farrah Fawcett here. (Hat tip: American Power) To my great disappointment, the coverage of Michael Jackson’s life and death has been as all-consuming on Fox News as it has been on the other news channels. One reporter referred to him as “Michael” this morning. That’s probably been rather common, but I haven’t kept the TV tuned there long enough to know. Why, they’re going to Disneyland, of course! If, that is, by “going to Disneyland,” you actually mean that a mob is going to run wild outside the Staples Center, set fires, attack vehicles, pelt the police with rocks and bottles, and trash businesses. Which I guess, for some of the “fans,” is a Disneyland of [...] Maybe I’m just picky — I know my dad would say I am — but nextround.net’s list of ”The 11 Hottest FOX News Reporters” strikes me as over-inclusive and under-inclusive at the same time. Some of these gals aren’t that good looking at all. And there are at least two important omissions. The Indian Ocean island of Mayotte, with a population of 186,000, just voted to become a “fully-fledged part of France,” which will require it to abandon some of its local legal customs. With a 61% voter turnout, the vote wax more than 95% in favor of the change in status. Oh, good grief. I’d say a little tweaking is in order when the advertising algorithm displays this ad: at self-described anti-Jihad blog Infidels are Cool, which features this header photo: I’m guessing the click-through rate from Infidels are Cool isn’t too high. var addthis_pub = ‘deucegeary’; As you probably already know, Ben Stein bowed out of speaking at University of Vermont’s commencement ceremony. Apparently, students were upset by Stein’s creationist views, which he aired last year in the film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. I haven’t seen that movie, not because I had some concerns about accusations that he had hoodwinked people [...] I really would be surprised if the porn industry has to worry too much about its bottom line . . . but guess who’s lining up at Hank Paulson’s bailout feeding trough: On Fox News, I just saw Bill Richardson giving his speech regarding his nomination as commerce secretary. Just when I thought he was done, he started all over again . . . in Spanish. There’s a horrible fire burning many home in the hills above Montecito, California. Believe I or not, politic intrudes on my thoughts even as I pray for the firefighters and the people whose property is threatened or has already been destroyed. Why, you ask? Because it reminds me of another fire almost twenty years ago, when [...] Rush says it (or at least, he used to say it — haven’t listened to him in a long time), Sean Hannity says it, yesterday I caught a few minutes of Mike Gallagher, and he said it: “The American people are too smart to fall for [insert liberal tripe here].” Hogwash. Yesterday, Gallagher claimed the American [...] I don’t agree with these guys at all: Image via Wikipedia |
