Honorary Skepticrat of the Month: Tammy Bruce
She said that the Republican National Committee had come “out of a coma” and improved to a “mostly vegetative state” to elect Michael Steele as its new chairman. Pretty apt, I thought. And, she gave a contrarian viewpoint on the opening of Steele’s acceptance speech, which lots of conservative blogs have been featuring. She criticized Steele’s description of the RNC members as “proud.”" In her opinion, anyone on the RNC who is proud of the party’s performance should be fired. I don’t have a transcript, so I’m paraphrasing above, but it was a nice, skeptical take on the self-congratulatory atmosphere surrounding Steele’s election. To fully appreciate her comments, you probably need to know more about Tammy’s background. Back in the early ’90s, when I lived in L.A. and heard her on the weekends on KFI, she was my favorite gun-toting lesbian talk radio personality. Really. Even though she seemed thrilled that Clinton won, and I agreed with her on very little, she was interesting to listen to. Now, the first sentence on her biography page describes her as an “openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted-for-President Bush authentic feminist.” She’s also a tiger in the war on Islamic terror. Check out her bio. In short, I think it’s fair to say that most conservatives have considered her one of “the good guys” since 9/11. She’s no Republican, but her commentary on Steele’s election might as well have been from a member of the party, earning her this month’s Honorary Skepticrat honor. 2 comments to Honorary Skepticrat of the Month: Tammy BruceYour incentive to comment: |

What, now we go and find our own “magic Negro”?
This is a very, very sad day for America. The election of Steele proves that the Republican party will not go in the direction they need to for the sake of our country. They can expect to be in the minority for quite some time to come.
Are you a true conservative or just a kool aid drinker? If you are a true conservative then you would listen to what this other true conservative has to say about him.

Steve Deace is so right about him.
He’s a RINO. On that we can be clear. This proves that the Republican Party’s move to the Left might be a permanent legacy of the Bush years.
I’m afraid the term RINO may eventually have to go by the wayside. As the Republican party continues to drift leftward, RINOs will no longer by RINOs — they will be genuine Republicans, at least under the new definition.
Perhaps we should adopt “CINO” — Conservative In Name Only — as the new identifier for liberal Republicans. Much as Michael Medved may like to mock “Losertarians” and other third party members, is there any avoiding a split in the future? Perhaps, with luck, the typical face-off will be between Democrats and the new party, with the new Republicans relegated to fringe status.
None of which means I necessarily agree with you about Steele. I’m afraid I don’t know much about the man.
