Wage preemptive war against the MSM!

That appears to be the advice of Kevin D. Willamson at NRO’s Media Blog:

Every time I hear a Republican candidate or office-holder talking about media bias in the fall, I assume that the election is over and the Republican has lost. It’s not that the complaints don’t have merit—do they ever—it’s just that the media-bias talk tends to come up right about the time things are going undeniably south for a campaign. So maybe it’s best to front-load the discussion for next time around. Candidates who are talking about media bias in October are losing elections.

Media bias against conservatives may be real and pervasive, but conservatives look like whiners when they bring it up at a point when they are already losing. It must be fought correctly. Easier said than done, I know. And I don’t even pretend to know everything that entails, but Williamson’s call to “front-load the discussion for next time around” seems like a good starting point.

Yes, I now the Media Research Center and its Newsbusters blog do this full time. And for the most part, they do it quite well (though I find them to be rather whiny a lot more often than I wish). MRC chief Brent Bozell gets his fair share of media exposure, but the MSM does everything it can to paint him as a crank.

MSM bias isn’t going to go away any time soon. We’d better figure out an effective way to offset it.

UPDATE: An unusual source for complaints of pro-Obama bias.
