I suspect that if Ace ever runs across this humble upstart of a blog, he might suspect that I capitalized off his name (and especially if my soon-to-be co-contributor adopts a name starting with “Tre”). So let me just say for the record that I wasn’t trying to do that and only realized the Ace-Deuce similarity after I chose my nom de plume.

I actually came up with the name while going through various aspects of my Marine Corps service, looking for a name that was available on Gmail and Blogger. So many of my ideas were taken (my favorite was Razor Wire), and then I came up with “Deuce Gear,” then made it resemble a more regular name by changing it to “Deuce Geary.”

Every Marine knows what deuce gear is. I don’t know if it is called the same thing in the Army.
